Life of Saint Paschal Baylon
Saint Paschal Baylon was born on May 16, 1540, in the village of Torrehermosa, Spain to a humble farming family. From an early age, he exhibited a profound love for the Eucharist and a deep devotion to prayer. In his youth, he worked as a shepherd, spending much of his time meditating on God’s creation and the mysteries of faith. Following a desire for a deeper spiritual life, he joined the Franciscan Order in 1564, where he lived a life of humility, penance, and fervent devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Throughout his life, Saint Paschal was known for his mystical experiences, often engaging in spiritual ecstasy during Mass. He was a fervent preacher of the Eucharistic devotion, tirelessly spreading the Word of God and encouraging the faithful to partake in the Holy Communion with reverence. His commitment to serving the poor and his dedication to the life of prayer exemplified the virtues of simplicity and charity. He passed away on May 17, 1592, and was canonized by Pope Alexander VIII in 1690. His feast day is celebrated annually on May 17, offering the faithful a moment to reflect on his life and example of devotion to Christ in the Eucharist.
