Life of Saint Eugene de Mazenod
Saint Eugene de Mazenod was born in Provence, France, on August 1, 1782, to a noble family. He lived through the turmoil of the French Revolution, which ignited within him a deep love for God and a desire to serve the poor and marginalized. Eugene was known for his compassionate heart and dedication to the struggles of the downtrodden. After completing his studies in Italy, he returned to France and, in 1816, founded the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a religious congregation committed to serving the poor, the youth, and those who were far from the Church.
Eugene’s passionate work included preaching missions, providing spiritual guidance, and supporting those who suffered from poverty and despair. He was appointed Bishop of Marseilles in 1837, where he continued tirelessly in his mission, fostering the growth of his congregation and establishing numerous missions across Europe and North America. Saint Eugene was canonized on December 3, 1995, by Pope John Paul II, who declared him a saint for his profound dedication to evangelization and service.
